The more I delve into the syncing issue, the less sense it makes to me.
So I started playing with a program by the name of EssentialPIM, and I’m seriously considering paying for the full version. There’s a but, of course. And this isn’t an indictment of anything, more along the lines of general musings.
I use my PPC to handwrite notes. It’s probably the most useful thing on the PPC, which is why I haven’t sold it yet. The ability to jot notes, do drawings, save and sync them is incredibly helpful. There’s a physical button that turns on the PPC AND launches the notes program – I can write with one hand without taking my eyes off of the road, for instance.
The only problem is the actual syncing bit.
I can sync them to outlook, but these notes can’t be edited or categorized, at all. Outlook hasn’t the slightest idea what to do with any of the voice notes I’ve taken. In turn, EssentialPIM doesn’t know what to do with them when I try to import, so it doesn’t import them at all.
A little quandry, as it were, since I’m using the free version and to find out what it does, I have to buy the pay version. Presumably nothing, but I can only assume.
The other issue is that EssentialPIM doesn’t let you color code notes, but Outlook does and Phatnotes does. Why that is? Ah… hmm.
I don’t understand how these devices have become so ubiquitous and yet! nothing syncs properly. Even MS products don’t really talk to each other properly. I know PPC 2003SE is six year old tech, but so is outlook 2003. Presumably, they were made at the same time, so why don’t they work together seamlessly?
I’m still considering finchsync, but the beauty of essentialpim is that you can nest tasks AND notes. It doesn’t show up on the PPC side (or outlook, for that matter), but it’s insanely helpful at work. It’s already increased my productivity by leaps and bounds.
One of these days, I’ll have it sorted out. I think.
