Micro rant

I know my car is cheap, but… come on! It turns out the two inch speakers sitting in the tweeter spots were 13 (!) ohms with a capacitor, which is a really cheap way to make a (poor sounding) crossover. The way they did it meant they wired in parallel without actually adding much to the impedance but justified raising the price for a ‘premium’ six speaker sound system.

Ugh. I’ve opted to drop the oversized 6.75″ blaupunkt two ways in the front door and put the components in the rear, flush mounting the tweeters in the D pillars so people in the back can, you know, hear the music. Why Toyota opted to mount 5.25″s in the trunk area behind the seats baffles the mind. In order to replace them, I have to 1) remove the rear seat, 2) remove the rear safety bar, 3) remove the false floor, 4) remove the seat belt anchors, 5) remove the rear quarter panels. They couldn’t just mount them in the door? Why couldn’t they just mount them in the door? Even better, they riveted the speakers to the frame.

Anyway.
