A Note or Two

After some digging, it turns out Ubuntu offers a minimal distro cd – and by minimal I mean 10 MB big. This is of interest because the effort I’ve put into following repos is much more than I had hoped or anticipated. There has to be a balance between security and ease of use; I’m not that paranoid. I figure I can build up a custom Ubuntu install the same way I did debian.

For those wondering, ubuntu is built on top of debian, but ubuntu uses a mix of packages from both the stable and unstable branches in a tightly knit repository. Because of debian’s philosophy, there’s a bit of fracture when it comes to repos. I thought I could keep on top it… I can’t. Not enough time.

At Lisa’s and Jaya’s behest I started listening to the Beatles. Turns out they aren’t all that bad and there are a lot of songs that I know of the Beatles that I didn’t attribute to them.

You have to understand, in the neighborhood and schools I went to, no one really listened to the Beatles. It’ll shock you to know that I don’t really know much about Bruce Springsteen, Aerosmith, and the like. I grew up on healthy doses of pop and rap; I listened to 102.1FM constantly up until the mid 90s when grunge/alternative was popular (I was obsessed with Pearl Jam).

Tangentially, I stopped listening to the radio when 103.9 went silent. I remember the signal shutting off at midnight of February 8, 1997; that was the end of all radio listening for me.
