What a weekend

Lisa touched upon this in her blog, but this weekend was great. We went nowhere, and Nora and I practically spent the whole weekend outside. I would do yardwork, Nora would help, then we’d play together, then she’d find something deeply interesting and work on that while I went back to yardwork. Repeat.

What made it better was that I assumed I’d go into work on Monday, but on the day of was told it was a day off. There’s nothing better than an unexpected day off. And we went off and did the above. Nora did not want to go inside. I think she was as stir crazy as I was this whole summer.

The only thing that really irks me is that no matter how much I make the backyard look nice, the neighbor’s backyard looks awful. As in, they have their junk up against the fence, but they can’t see it since it’s sloped. We don’t think it’s to code, and there may very well be a ton of violations – but we don’t want to cause a neighbor war. I want to put up a privacy fence personally, but we’d have to call the township to resolve the border issue and may get them in trouble.

We never formally introduced ourselves to them, either. We only know our neighbors to the left and right of us. The way they talked back there – well, we don’t have any desire to make their acquaintance.

While I do yardwork, I listen to the Beatles. And sing along (only when running the mower). To that end, I’m thinking that the Beatles Rock Band edition isn’t such a bad idea.

R/C car shows up tomorrow! And having cleaned out the backyard, there’s a lot of space to drive it ‘offroad’.

There’s a little spot in the corner of the yard that hasn’t been cleared yet – but once it’s cleared, it would be a great place for a little playhouse for the kids. It’s recessed so there’s privacy (for the kids, duh), and a enough space so a little fence can be put up for a little garden and other things. So my next project is clearing out the mess, trimming the tree and figuring out how much it costs to buy/build such a thing.
