Upgrades

The parts came in, so I got down to work. I upgraded the driveshaft to carbon fiber, and swapped out the spur and pinon gears. This process took eons, as 1) I had no idea what I was doing, 2) installed things backwards, and 3) was sleepy.

End result? It does things that it didn’t do before. Now I can do doughnuts going forward instead of only in reverse, the tires break traction if I give it full throttle, and it powerslides like crazy.

I’m not sure if any of these are good things. I was testing it in my driveway, and the ground was damp from the rain, but even so it didn’t do this on wet pavement in the past.

I have no idea where the gains are mostly coming from, since I did both upgrades at once. I assume the driveshaft made a bigger difference since it weighs significantly less than the original driveshaft.

I’ll try taking a video today. I keep meaning to, but by the time I remember the battery is usually drained.

Good news: I soldiered a 3AAA pack to the dingoo, so it lives! Bad news: I broke the speaker wires so now there’s no sound (there’s sound through the headphone jack).

The speakers are specifically cheap pieces of chinese junk which I hate with a burning passion. However, they were serviceable, but now aren’t. How I’m going to resolve this is a good question.

I’m not thrilled with the mod – but I couldn’t find a lipoly to fit. Nor did I want to go that route anyway. Even using rechargeables, I lose 700mah of battery life. On the flipside, I can pick up AAAs anywhere, and get continuous play. Still, the aesthetics are all thrown off.

Pictures later.
