The last two

The last two weeks have been insanely difficult, culminated by the news that my aunt had passed away Sunday morning (Saturday evening in India).

She sponsored my parents to come to the U.S., and once they got here got them on her feet. She was a weekly (and sometimes daily) fixture at my house and special events. She had a stroke and was then bed-ridden.

When we were kids, she helped my parents by taking us to our appointments and checking in on us when we were home alone. She drove my mom everywhere. From time to time, she even helped with homework.

She was the person I expected to be by my side when we were planning our wedding. She would’ve been at the tasting, leading up front with my mom during the Hindu wedding procession.

We were so close that when she came out of her coma, she was asking for us: my mom and dad, sister and I – not her kids or her own husband.

Granted, I hadn’t seen her at the end stages of her life. I had a long talk with my sister today on that subject and realized it was for the best. Clearly, I’m taking it the hardest because my parents and sister are of the opinion that it ended her severe suffering.

Her family fell apart after her stroke.

Heartache all around, I guess.
