The 512mb xD replacement card arrived. I checked the contacts this time and none are scratched. I put it in the camera, and it booted up immediately without a problem. We’re officially ready camera wise for Paris! We can take pictures at 5mp in standard mode, allowing for 400+ pictures, or in fine mode allowing 200+ pictures.
I was pretty irritated that over the poconos that we couldn’t take pictures with the new camera (that was half the reason why I went!) but it ended up fine in the end. The moral of the story – the card never leaves the camera ever again. This camera is actually excellent on battery life – I’ve taken at least 100 pictures with it already and haven’t noticed an issue with it booting up or recharging the flash. It’ll get charged of course before heading to Paris, with extra batteries on tap.
Speaking of the camera, I need to share a picture that makes buying this camera 100% worth it:
Why did it make it worth it? First, the sharpness and clarity of that picture is stunning. I haven’t had a camera (digital, anyway) that captured light quite like this camera. And second, the boot up time – Denby tends to run quickly when found. The camera boots and is fully charged in 1 second (literally). And finally – it’s our beautiful Denby, doing what he does best – hides in ridiculously small places where a kitty of his size simply shouldn’t fit. 
Just to be fair, here’s a picture of Peja being cute also. He’s a territorial, jealous kitty (at times) and he is giving me a look. It was taken with the same camera but with the quality settings way down low. His cuteness makes up for it.
Four days until our vacation… and the beginning of Paris. I’m too excited for words!

How lovely it is to see you in such vivid form…I hope that we can rendezvous again soon, particularly as I might be able to sneak in a ride with M &M on their way over in a few days or in the backseat of your Daddy’s car again. I very much enjoyed our last encounter and our late night conversations.
