1) This isn’t an indicment of linux or Ubuntu, but I may simply be going back to Suse. Why? Well, there are just weird networking bugs that I can’t get around, and a deal breaker in that synchronization with the zaurus is broken.

I maintain that I’ve learned a lot more about linux in the 3 months that I’ve used (K)Ubuntu than I have in years with Suse, but I think that speaks volumes with Suse that you don’t need to muck around in the commandline to get things fixed. Even though Suse’s polish is off on Opensuse 10.1, those bugs aren’t as critical as these networking and synchronization issues.

Networking specifically is a show stopper. I travel between three different routers (generally), in both wired and wireless configurations. There are two separate servers which I need to connect to (work and home) and it unfortunately is having difficulty with that task.

And I can’t sync the zaurus to it. It breaks the connection for some reason.

Oh well. I may just switch tonight for the hell of it, since I need to do laundry. :-D

2) Oh this is much more exciting. The house is ours!

That’s right, the person counter offered with something we were enthralled with, and we signed the papers two days ago. The seller signed the papers yesterday.

I’m absolutely thrilled, as is Lisa.

The only let down is that there isn’t much work to be done to the house. Actually, almost none. Painting and pulling up the carpet. Whoopdeedo. So I’ve been designing a room that we can build above the garage that will be a true master bedroom (the current master bedroom is pretty big – but my plans may also include using the attic). :-D

So, we’re going to have lots and lots of space. Finished basement, three bedrooms (eventually four), a three car driveway and a garage (the garage for the Delorean, and the three cars are mine, Lisa’s and the old Benz).

:-D

The one thing that I’m very excited about is the commute and how much shorter it’ll be for both of us. Right now we both spend between 40 minutes to an hour a day in commuting (in one direction). For me, it’ll drop down to 10, maybe 15. Lisa may never need to drive to work again, with the train in close vicinity (Wynnewood’s R100, Ardmore as well).

And, we can take local roads to Mare and Michael’s house, another plus. The roads are scenic and gorgeous.

Further, the house is off of Lawrence road. Down Lawrence road is a Barnes and Noble, Acme, (drug bust) Pathmark, EBGames, and a Dollar Land (this list is applicable to me only, by the way). I’m set. :-D

I suppose now we’ll have to give our landlord 60 days notice… wow.

Very, very exciting. :-D
