So, with the milestones I’ve reached here at the office, I thought my run of ‘successfulness’ would go unabated. I was going to whip this place into shape, score a bunch of contracts, and make this thing crank even harder than before.
However, since October, several patients have died (one of which I believe I killed – may not be directly, but I had involvement), and the coup I planned to form with JCAHO, Blue/Keystone was thwarted by a company that has been elusive for the last two and a half months, Keystone Mercy.
KMPH is basically medicaid, and was also one of the biggest providers for this company. The office lost credentialing with them since it lacked JCAHO. So, I came in, and got JCAHO done, then got Keystone done, then managed to double income.
But with all these setbacks everyone at the office was looking to get KMHP… with no such luck. I basically spent the last hour pleading with the guy (very nicely, of course) about reinstating the office.
Of course, the problem is that we aren’t a high volume company that serves a 100 mile radius. We can’t outbid other contracts, we don’t have that kind of market strength. And with other companies having such a head start on us aren’t likely going to ease up.
And now at the same time I’m questioning my value to the company. I know it can afford to have me here, but I think lately things have … stagnated, and improving the situation seems to be much more unlikely, now that contract was lost.
We’ll see though. I’m hoping Keystone will pull us through. If it does, no more guilt. There’s a stack of patients yet to be billed, it should be interesting how it all works out.
It’s never easy, is it?

In a cruel twist of fate, another company that I tried to contract with also decided that they’re full (Elderhealth). Why are they all calling today?
I’m fairly certain at this point, with my luck, I should NOT get on any ladders (ironically, today, I do have to get on a ladder – the only day scheduled this week that I was planning to do so).
Do I feel lucky?…

From the “you can’t make this sh!t up” file comes a public message of support for Michael Richards by… Mel Gibson. If the Michael Richards’ career wasn’t completely torpedoed, it is now, I presume.
Maybe they can start a comic group and tour the deep south – I’m sure their ‘damn [negros]‘ and ‘f!cking jews’ thing will be a smash hit.

NPR made an observation that I hadn’t thought about before – if the dollar dropped in value significantly, our products will be more palatable overseas and we can reduce this trillion dollar trade deficit. In the long run that helps companies like GM and Ford be more competitive overseas, and create jobs here.
In the meantime, though, when that happens, crap from overseas (re: Sony, Panasonic, PC components, Toyota, Honda etc. etc. etc.) will go up in price. I mean, as the end consumer, we certainly don’t win. Foreign countries who benefit from the deficit don’t win. But middle america does. Silicon Valley gets a leg up.
I guess my readership depends – I like buying items from overseas, and I prefer foreign cars and electronics. They’re just made better (usually). So I guess it depends. Right? Right.

Nothing exciting planned, ongoing perhaps.

Oy, Kashi, I’m sorry.
Please don’t think it has anything to do with you… if your dad and Barbara had been on the ball and gotten JCAHO taken care of back when they should have, it never would have been lost in the first place. You’re doing as well as you can at cleaning up other people’s messes, and you’ve raised income to the business significantly. You’re very valuable.
I love you. :-*
P.S. You didn’t kill anyone! You were barely even sick when you went there! I wish you’d stop beating yourself up over an unfortunate coincidence. Besides, if the guy was sick enough to die from a cold, his time was short anyway.
