Kind of like “Link Day”, this is one of those all day updates. This is partially due to the fact that Lisa no longer has full access to the intartubes, a problem I hope is only temporary (in that, she’ll be transitioning elsewhere).
Alright, let’s begin at the top. FIOS is fast. Extremely fast. However, the router and I are at odds with each other. I managed to setup a static IP for the server, which is what was driving me batty two days ago – however! once you create a static IP, it no longer appears anywhere in the router’s connection listing. Or anywhere else for that matter. If you look at the routing table it isn’t there. If you look at the advanced traffic features, it’ll show up there, since data is flowing to and from that device… it’s an incalculably stupid design decision that baffles the mind. I think, in Verizon’s eyes, I should know it’s there. Of course, I do. However, that doesn’t mean the router simply gets to relinquish authority and flip me the bird! You can’t say ‘oh, nothing is connected via ethernet now! Bastards. Just another example of the man holding me down.
The FIOS tv service is phenomenal, and we’re so used to the Comcast DVR being finicky that this DVR, with it’s instantaneous stop->play->fast forward, it’s giving us (well, just Lisa) fits. The addition of BBC World, CNN International, and a whole slew of excellent programming had Lisa comparing it to sex.
Now… I’m generally not insecure about these things, but either Lisa finds our sex life awfully boring, or she has a serious CNN international fetish.
You laugh, but I married her.
In any event, the only issue I have with Verizon’s TV service is that it’s not as sharp as Comcast’s. It’s kind of like watching satellite TV without the artifacts – all the colors seemed washed out, and while it’s not as bad as composite or coaxial connectivity, it’s not as sharp as s-video should be. The Speed network is perfectly fine, but almost all the other channels I’ve visited are suffering from this wash out. It’s like watching PAL / 50hz TV, if you’ve had that experience. I’ll probably get used to it (since we did sign a contract *grumble*), but you have to take the good with the bad.

The project blog has been updated… I think the new plan is middle of the week entries, like Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. The “problem” with this blog is that it forces us to critically evaluate our projects and actually work on them – weekly. I’d love to write up a widget that indicates the amount of progress any particular project has, but that’s a project in and of itself.

This could very well be one of those days that I can’t wait for to end. A tenant locked himself out of his house… sort of. The door is stuck? Oye.

Strange. He climbed through the back door, and we couldn’t repeat the issue. But, while I was there, I fixed his closet door. That makes me fairly awesome.

Do you know what a pedophile is? And after you visit the site, do you agree?
Anchor hates reporter. Reporter hates anchor. You need sound for this video.
Pachelbel Rant – you WILL need sound for this.
Ford F-150 Review – by the brits at Top Gear. It’s more a comparison of Americans versus Brits; it’s hysterical.

And like that, Nora is done with purees. That’s another $70 a month back in our pockets!
Good night.

Ahem. I don’t find our sex life boring. That said, I have no comment as to my alleged “CNN International fetish.”
