I’m still meaning to tell the story about Denby, I swear. Especially since he’s such a sweetheart and… ok, remind me to tell the story. It’s good, honest. IN THE MEANTIME I’ll bore you with something else.

We did see Alix Olson tonight. And? So? Well, I’m not a big fan of spoken word, and I imagine she’s good at what she does, I mean she was pleasant and all that, but again it’s not my thing, and it was a service to Leesie, really, since she had no one to go with.
I got her to take a picture with Lisa, because Leesie’s always shy like that. You can see it at Lisa’s weblog here. She was a little goofy around her idol, but that can be expected. Hell when I was at Lehigh over the summer I almost fainted when I ran into the offensive line of the Philadelphia Eagles (and saw them in practice, but that’s another story). I didn’t see Donovan McNabb, but hey, that’s fine.
Oh, and I almost ran over my favorite Eagle, Brian Dawkins. That was by accident. Actually, he was walking in the middle of the road (Sayre Drive) and I was driving the Land Cruiser. It’s a narrow road, but it’s B-Dawk, so it’s my fault.

I’m finally back in Linux! But here’s the frustration.
In KDE, a GUI, the internet is slow. As in, it takes a hojillion years to ‘resolve the DNS’. So, I decided to go to Gnome.
As you may or may not recall, I was using Ximian’s version of Gnome about 5 months ago, which I loved. However, Ximian is a separate entity which made Gnome ‘stylish’ for the SuSE desktop. Unfortunately, gnome itself wasn’t as polished, so I’ve been kind of suffering until now. I downloaded all the Gnome 2.8 RPMS, and viola! Finally, a useable interface. An interface is lot of fun. Check it out!
No, that computer on the right is not part of the picture, it’s an actual icon. You can resize them to one’s liking. In my neuvo art design I think that’s pretty neat, but not permanent mind you.
Makes you wonder how rigid the Windows interface is. On a daily basis my needs and desires change, so why can’t my desktop? Hell, I have three desktops, you’re looking at #3, which is dedicated to music. That is, whenever I turn on the computer, Xmms (winamp, essentially) and my mp3 folder opens up and is ready whenever I feel the need to listen to music. Now, I don’t mean when I come back from puter sleep, which Windows can do, but when I shut down and boot up the machine – that’s a really neat feature I love about Linux. And since Gnome is much faster than KDE, my browser, email program and all the other stuff I had open opens right up again, generally at the last page I was browsing.
So it’s not necessarily a nerd thing to like/love Linux, it’s just it suits me better. And I imagine it’d suit a lot of people better as long as they put some elbow grease into it.

That’s it for tonight. I’m exhausted.
