I need a few days off somewhere where I can take lots of cute pictures of my wife and kids and not worry about school or work.

I’ve been ogling some fantastic photos of NYC and Belgium and it’s driving me nutty that summer is almost over, and that the outdoor temperatures have not been tolerable for long stretches of walking outside since the beginning of June.

At least we have the pool… while I absolutely hate setting it up, I have no idea how we’d pass the evenings since we can’t do anything else outside.

Argh.

If the movie Max Payne, which opens this Friday, is bad how would you know? Max Payne (the game) is an action shooter whose storyline was designed to be super cliched with a noir feel. Based on all the previews, this movie nails the mood (and the dialogue). This is probably the best video game to make into a movie – if it’s bad, it’s because it’s keeping true with the original game; if it’s good, it stands on its own merits and the used value of the game goes up (which is good for me). This entry is mainly a reaction to philly.com’s gripping expose on how Mark Wahlberg likes Philly (and his son was conceived here. btw, tmi).

A current employee just bought a Yamaha FZ-6 for himself… only $3800! 600cc! (600cc ~ 112hp, or 30 more hp than my CAR). To say I’m insanely jealous would be an underwhelming appraisal of the situation. And all I want is a Vespa… just 50cc will do…

The Sixers have done it. They cleared enough cap space by trading Carney and Booth to the T’Wolves; and it appears Elton Brand signing is imminent. This makes the Sixers an extremely tough team with one of the better front courts in the league, with Dalembert at center, Brand at power forward, and Young at small forward. Iguodala will likely rotate between shooting guard and small forward; with Carney’s departure, Willie Green is the backup SG. It’s like this: the next time Willie Green plays defense, it’ll be the first time. The Sixers may now target Josh Childress for this very reason; he’s the guy I wanted the Sixers to pick in 2004 (they ended up taking Iguodala at #9, Childress went at #6).

Just shy of 24 total gameplay hours, I’ve put away Bully. Looking at the list of games that I wanted to complete, I made a list of goals and finally finished them. I’ve already gone at length about how great this game is; but for comparison sake, Arc the Lad (RPG) takes 15 hours, Shining Force Advance took under 15 hours, an average Final Fantasy game takes somewhere between 30-40 hours. It’s not an RPG – there’s simply that much depth to the game. I put away the game at 77.45% completed – something to do in a year or two.

I need a new cell phone. My sucktastic Motorola Krzr is now doing all sorts of stupid things. Before, it would say it’s fully charged when it wasn’t. Then the battery wouldn’t hold a charge for more than day. Now the phone is turning itself off even if the battery if fully charged (I can turn it back on and make a number of calls – meaning, the battery isn’t dead). Because Verizon offers godawful CDMA service, the cheapest phone available ironically is a blackberry. I don’t know why there’s a glut of them, but they’re almost $100 cheaper than Lisa’s run of the mill phone. Has it been two years? ~~Can I upgrade finally?~~ I just went ahead and purchased a blackberry 7250. There’s a crapload of features from google which will likely make me a crackberry addict.

Hey, I’ll admit it – I was wrong. The Flyers are going to the playoffs, as are the Sixers. Things have changed pretty drastically since Sept. 2007 – I’m just hoping this isn’t just a one-and-done situation.
